On the evening of Tuesday, August 15, 2017 the Fort Bragg city government announced that long-serving City Manager Linda Ruffing would be retiring in the new year. The announcement came less than 24 hours after the Council had received dozens of written and oral comments extensively praising Ruffing, in an upswell of public support in response to extended labor negotiations and rumors that her contract might not be extended, and that a an alleged "coup" was being organized by a faction in the city government. On Wednesday, August 16, Dan Young spoke with Ruffing about the circumstances surrounding her retirement.
